Handcuffs, Helmets, and Frustrations: Court Appearance for Key Figures in July Uprising Cases

In a high-security court session in Dhaka, several prominent figures including Salman F Rahman, former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, and former ministers Anisul Huq and Nuruzzaman Ahmed appeared before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court. The accused, including Haji Mohammad Salim and others, were escorted in handcuffs, wearing helmets and bulletproof vests. The session focused on murder cases related to the July uprising. Salim, who is mute, became distressed in court, struggling to communicate and losing his temper. After the hearing, Anisul and Mamun were placed on three-day remand for involvement in two separate deaths during the protests. Salim, frustrated with inadequate prison facilities, remains a subject of legal concern.
