Bangladesh to Intensify Raids During Ramadan, Drops ‘Devil Hunt’ Name

Law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh will intensify operations during Ramadan to curb rising crimes, including robbery, theft, and counterfeit currency circulation. The Home Ministry decided to continue the joint force operation but will discontinue the controversial name “Operation Devil Hunt.” Surveillance has been heightened in crime-prone areas like malls, markets, and transport hubs. Special security measures are in place for financial institutions, with police offering “money escort” services. On the first day of Ramadan, Dhaka police arrested 167 suspects, including robbers and hijackers. Authorities emphasize human rights protection during raids, while high-ranking officials will regularly brief the media. Security efforts will remain stringent throughout the holy month.
