Gold prices in Bangladesh have increased 14 times in the past three months, reaching a record high of BDT 157,872 per bhori (22K) as of March 28. In contrast, a year ago, the price was BDT 111,000, marking a rise of BDT 47,000 per bhori. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) regulates gold prices, adjusting them based on global trends. The surge is driven by rising international gold prices, geopolitical tensions, increased tariffs, and economic uncertainties. Many investors are shifting funds from stock markets to gold as a safer investment. Additionally, central banks worldwide have been increasing gold reserves, with over 1,000 tons purchased annually for three consecutive years. Global gold prices have surpassed $3,100 per ounce, setting new records weekly.
