China’s Commerce Minister is set to visit Bangladesh next month, accompanied by 200 investors, signaling a potential boost in bilateral economic relations. At a press briefing on April 9, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Chairman Ashiq Chowdhury shared updates from the third day of the Investment Conference. He revealed the UAE-based DP World Group has shown interest in establishing a Free Trade Zone near Matarbari. Additionally, the government is planning to attract foreign investments in the defense sector, focusing on full-scale production rather than just technical support. A Memorandum of Understanding worth $1.5 billion has already been signed with China’s Handa Company, along with another deal with the International Labour Organization (ILO). The day also featured a special exhibition by 30 young entrepreneurs showcasing innovations in textiles, agriculture, AI, and education.
