A Chinese executive, Chuanling Zhang of China Railway No.10 (Thailand), was arrested in Bangkok following the collapse of a 30-storey building during an earthquake, which killed 47 people. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) classified the incident as a special case, uncovering alleged use of Thai proxies, violations of the Foreign Business Act, and over 2 billion baht in suspicious financial transactions. Authorities are investigating possible bid rigging, substandard construction materials, and forged engineering documents. Arrest warrants were also issued for three Thai nationals, who remain at large. Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, with further scrutiny on the company’s other contracts underway. Zhang remains under investigation and will be given a chance to defend himself.
