Mehedi Hasan Khan, the creator of the Avro Keyboard, was initially reluctant to accept the Ekushey Padak alone. In a Facebook post, Cultural Affairs Advisor Mostofa Sarwar Farooki confirmed that the award would be given to the entire Avro team, including Rifat Nabi, Tanbin Islam Siam, and Shabab Mustafa. The government had already decided to honor Avro’s contribution despite knowing Mehedi might decline. Eventually, Mehedi agreed to accept the award but insisted that his teammates be recognized as well. In response, the government chose to award the entire team collectively. Farooki expressed excitement about welcoming the four innovators, believing their recognition would inspire young people to move forward together despite challenges. Mehedi previously received the BASIS Award in 2011 for his contribution to the IT sector.
