Retired Justice Manik Placed on Two-Day Remand in Murder Case

A Dhaka court placed retired Supreme Court judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik on a two-day remand in connection with the death of 24-year-old Abujor Sheikh during quota reform protests on July 19 last year. Police sought a seven-day remand, but the court granted two days. The victim’s mother, Sobi, filed a murder case on August 25 against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 26 others, which was later registered as an FIR by Gulshan police. Manik was arrested on August 23 last year while allegedly attempting to flee to India through the Dona border in Sylhet’s Kanaighat upazila. The investigation into his alleged involvement continues.
