Election This Year Unlikely Due to Law and Order Situation: Nahid Islam

Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens’ Party, has expressed doubts about holding elections this year due to ongoing law and order concerns. In an interview with Reuters, published on March 6, he stated that despite short-term reforms, the police have not fully stabilized the situation as expected. Given the current conditions, organizing a national election seems difficult. However, he reaffirmed that his party is ready whenever elections take place. He emphasized the importance of reaching a consensus on the “July Revolution Declaration,” a document reflecting public aspirations and honoring the 1,000 people who died in past movements. If consensus is achieved within a month, elections can proceed; otherwise, they should be delayed. He also mentioned that wealthy individuals are funding the party, with plans for crowdfunding and election fund initiatives.
