By Former Senior Secretary N M Ziaul Alam has been placed on a two-day remand over allegations of selling National ID (NID) data, embezzling Tk 20,000 crore. The Cyber Investigation Division of the CID arrested him from Chattogram’s Panchlaish residential area on Wednesday night.According to the case, more than 11 crore citizens’ personal data, comprising 46 types of information, were stolen and sold to 182 local and foreign entities through a company named Digicon. The case also implicates 19 others, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and former ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak. A recent investigative report by Jamuna Television exposed how NID data was unlawfully traded, leading to massive financial gains.
