Clashes Between Assad Loyalists and Syrian Security Forces Leave Over 70 Dead

A violent clash erupted between loyalists of Syria’s ousted president, Bashar al-Assad, and government security forces in Latakia province, leaving over 70 dead, including 15 security personnel. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the fighting took place near a Russian-controlled airbase. This marks the most intense attack on government-affiliated forces since Assad’s fall in December. The unrest has spread to cities like Homs and Aleppo, with heavy gunfire heard in residential areas. Syria’s Defense Ministry warned Assad loyalists to surrender or face consequences. State media confirmed that a large military force was heading toward Jableh to contain the violence. The clashes continue in coastal regions known as strongholds of the Alawite community and the Assad family.
