In an unusual turn of events, Enamul Hasan, an active Awami League worker from Bauphal, Patuakhali, celebrated his appointment as a member of the local BNP committee by slaughtering three goats and hosting a feast. Enamul, the cousin of local Awami League president Nesar Uddin Shikder and nephew of Patuakhali district Awami League president Kazi Alamgir, was appointed to a vacant position in the BNP’s Kalishuri Union committee. His appointment and celebratory feast have sparked controversy, as locals recall his past involvement with the Awami League and his role as an election agent for the ruling party in 2016. Allegations of land grabbing and extortion under his powerful family connections have also surfaced. The BNP leadership has launched an investigation into his background and promised actions based on findings.
