A mass march has commenced from the Teesta Bridge, demanding a fair share of Teesta River water and the implementation of the Teesta Mega Plan. The march, which started on Tuesday (February 18) from Lalmonirhat, will conclude at Kaunia Bazaar in Rangpur. Political activists, farmers, and workers have gathered at 11 points along the Teesta basin to support the cause.Protesters insist that the mega plan must begin during the interim government period and that India should be compelled to finalize the water-sharing agreement. Organizers emphasize that highlighting Teesta’s deteriorating condition globally will pressure India to act. The event is part of the “Jago Bahe, Teesta Bachai” campaign, which will conclude with a virtual speech by BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, addressing the people of northern Bangladesh.
