Remittance Surge: Over $2.25 Billion Sent to Bangladesh in Just 19 Days of March

Bangladesh is witnessing a significant surge in remittance inflows ahead of Eid celebrations. According to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank, expatriates have sent $2.25 billion in the first 19 days of March 2025. At the current exchange rate (122 BDT per USD), this amounts to over 274.74 billion BDT. This figure marks a 27% increase compared to the same period last year, when remittances totaled $1.63 billion. If the current trend continues, experts predict the total remittance for March could exceed $3 billion. The highest monthly remittance in recent times was $2.64 billion in December 2024, followed by $2.54 billion in February 2025. While the Middle East was once the top source of remittance, the United States and the United Kingdom have now taken the lead.
