Hasnat Abdullah Urges Military to Stay Within Barracks, Warns Against Political Interference in Post-2024 Bangladesh

Hasnat Abdullah, southern organizer of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), called on the military to refrain from interfering in politics and remain within their designated role in the cantonment. Speaking at a protest rally in Dhaka’s Shahbagh on March 22, demanding a ban on the Awami League, he criticized the military’s silence over the past 16 years of alleged rigged elections, enforced disappearances, and repression. Abdullah questioned why no military generals resigned in protest during that period. He emphasized the need for democratic reforms and free elections without military involvement. Clarifying that his stance is not against the armed forces but those who misuse them, he expressed hope that the military would earn public trust. Abdullah warned that with national unity, the Awami League would never return to power.
