U.S. Imposes 37% Tariff on Bangladeshi Goods Amid Economic Protectionism

U.S. President Donald Trump has increased tariffs on Bangladeshi products from an average of 15% to 37%, as part of a broader tariff hike on imports from various countries. The announcement was made at a White House press conference, where Trump declared the day as the U.S.’s “Economic Independence Day.” The move aligns with his “America First” policy, aiming to boost domestic industries. Other affected nations include China (34%), India (26%), Pakistan (29%), Vietnam (46%), and Myanmar (44%). Experts fear this could severely impact Bangladesh’s garment exports to the U.S., which accounted for $7.34 billion last year. The increased tariffs could disrupt trade and hinder Bangladesh’s economic growth.
