Hamas Seeks “Real Progress” in Cairo Talks Amid Ongoing Gaza Violence

Hamas officials, led by chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, are holding talks with Egyptian mediators in Cairo, expressing hope for “real progress” toward a ceasefire to end the Gaza war. Despite reports of potential proposals involving hostage exchanges and prisoner releases, Hamas claims no formal offers have been received. Meanwhile, Israeli strikes continue across Gaza, with over 1,500 Palestinians killed since fighting resumed on March 18. The UN warns of possible “forcible transfers” of Palestinians due to expanded evacuation orders. Israel also intercepted three projectiles from Gaza. The war, which began after Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, has resulted in over 50,000 Palestinian and 1,218 Israeli deaths, with 58 hostages still held in Gaza.
