By The decision to establish a separate university for the seven government colleges affiliated with Dhaka University has been finalized. The new institution will be named Dhaka Central University. This decision was made in a meeting at the University Grants Commission (UGC) with student representatives and UGC Chairman S M A Faiz.Under the previous government, there were plans to transfer government colleges from the National University to autonomous universities. As part of this initiative, on February 17, 2017, seven colleges were affiliated with Dhaka University. These include Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul College, Begum Badrunnesa Mohila College, Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College, with around 200,000 students enrolled.
