Bangladesh Confident in Resolving Tariff Issue with the U.S. Through Dialogue: Chief Adviser

Interim government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has expressed optimism about resolving the tariff issue with the U.S. through discussions. Speaking from Bangkok, his press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, stated that Bangladesh is reviewing the matter and is committed to finding a mutually beneficial solution. The U.S. recently imposed a 37% tariff on Bangladeshi imports, raising concerns over its impact on the country’s $8.4 billion export market, primarily dominated by garments. Bangladesh is also reviewing tariffs on U.S. imports, with the National Board of Revenue exploring possible adjustments. Dr. Yunus reaffirmed that the U.S. remains a key trade partner and believes ongoing cooperation with Washington will help resolve the issue. The U.S. has imposed similar tariffs on other countries, including India (26%), Pakistan (29%), China (34%), and the EU (20%).
