Arakan Army Abducts Four Bangladeshi Fishermen at Gunpoint from Naf River

Four Bangladeshi fishermen were abducted at gunpoint by Myanmar’s armed rebel group, the Arakan Army (AA), from the Naf River estuary near Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The incident occurred around 11 AM on Tuesday near Shah Porir Dwip’s Golarchar area. The abducted fishermen are Mohammad Hasan (30), Abdu Rokim (20), Mohammad Jaber (26), and Mohammad Hasan (16).According to local authorities, a speedboat from Myanmar intercepted their fishing boat and took them toward Myanmar. The Bangladesh Coast Guard and Border Guard (BGB) have been alerted. Following AA’s takeover of Myanmar’s Maungdaw Township in December, movement on the Naf River has been restricted. Concerns are rising over security in the area, with officials working to ensure the safe return of the abducted fishermen.
